CURFEWS
''If you want to get a teen riled up and pissed, seize their gadgets'', someone once said. Then I simply replied,''well, that's to an extent. If you do want to piss us off, remind us of our curfews, each time we are going out to have fun''. That's when you hear ''like I don't know, or, yeah right" accompanied with a growl. Even if we didn't intend on going past curfews, it still stirs something each time it is repeated.
''A curfew is meant to be a regulation requiring people (teenagers) to be off the street and be home at a certain time''. As defined by English dictionary, paraphrased by myself.
I have a curfew for 8pm, at most 9pm, non negotiable. Not like I really care, I don't party anyway or have any cause to stay out late. Until, I had an event to attend and it takes fairly 2 hours to journey from there down home. By 7pm, I was still totally engrossed, I wasn't concerned about my curfew and my journey back home. Then I said 15 more minutes won't hurt. And 15 mins, led to 30 mins, and that led to 1 hour. It was 8pm, it takes 2hours to get home, curfew is 9pm,then traffic had not been added in the equation. I did have a warning from home to leave the event at 6:30pm,and obviously it was disregarded. Long story short I ate my nails throughout the drive home, thinking up excuses to give when I got home. I exceeded my curfew, and of course, because my parents are my parents, I was punished.
The key around this whole curfew thing is obedience and responsiblilty. Wandering late at night with no sense of security is pretty harmful, and there is less to gain than when you follow instruction and walk in broad day light where there is a lesser threat of assault.
P.S: I don't think our parents are being killjoys about curfew and stuff, they just get really agitated when they don't know what is going on, especially when its getting late. (Teenager speaking)
Don't wait till you experience assault first hand before you try to avoid breaking curfews. As a teenager, curfew breaking can totally be avoided.

Curfews are really cool until that day when staying out late is just unavoidable because that party is so interesting or the movie is really interesting, and you can't leave the cinemas just yet, or your friend's house is just really fun, and you don't want to leave yet, even if you've been there the better part of the day.
Truth be told, curfews could be total deal breakers.I have a curfew for 8pm, at most 9pm, non negotiable. Not like I really care, I don't party anyway or have any cause to stay out late.
