School or Skill

While I got around, looking for something interesting to listen to, I heard this fine gist, and I settled and listened without saying a word. Of course, I had come backs for everything said, but I decided to leave, then rant here.

Subject of discussion: School/skill
Trust me, this subject is discussed day after day, but the same people that complain about it are also those that do the same thing they say they are against, likened to those that sit in front of BB Naija the whole day, then come out and complain of how bad it is. Human beings though, such laughable species.

In my opinion, I think, the idea of school should not be discarded in your minds.
School is a process of passing an education not a place to just sit and listen to a lecturer.
Also, learning a skill is one very important advantage a youth can have.

I get the whole argument of after spending years in a Nigerian university, you look for jobs and end up getting something not fulfilling or not getting one at all, which is the case with most people. Then decide to settle for a skill, while you regret your wasted years in the university. You might need a rethink on that last part.

I think, school is important, and learning a skill is important, one shouldn't be put down for the other.
The society has demanded a certificate, or no job, so most people( including myself, once) go to the university with the mindset that all they need is the certificate, that's all. What about the education, the knowledge, the fun, the connections with a lot of people, the enlightenment. A lot of people miss out on these because of their mindset, and end up losing a lot.

I have a little bit of a solution to this. Go to school, but learn a skill/skills, before or during the university, but never after, it becomes late, though you'd survive. Once you're done with school, decide if you want to work with it or not. Work with it? Fine, get a job. If not, build up your skill, use your years of growing up to build your skill, make a career out of it, dream big, heighten your capacity, don't settle small, make use of your connections with people from school, let them advertise you. Make use of your sociality that the university has given.

Practically speaking, according to how the society is, a graduate with a skill, is patronized and looked upon first in the business world, before a non graduate. Although, most non graduate, are highly intellectual, and most times more knowledgeable, but most often than not, they are not looked upon first as the best.

Your years in the university can only be an advantage, not a disadvantage.

You can't even sharpen your skill and build an institution of it without getting school on it. It's a *learning system*
Great advice, *school around your skill* it makes work become play, and you won't be "thanking God for Fridays" you'll be excited everyday.

Get your degree, and use your stay in the university well enough to build your skill, and be the best at it, trust me, you'd win the hearts of many.
I'm just being practical.
